As schools develop plans for the new school year, the health, safety, and security of our students, faculty, and staff is the predominant consideration. During this pandemic, many school communities were able to lean into their strengths, but also faced new challenges. We showed strength by being flexible and allowing students to participate during a difficult time. The NFHS and NSDA believe it is essential to the physical, social, emotional and mental well-being of K-12 students across the nation that students return to regular, face-to-face speech and debate activities as soon as it is deemed safe to do so. With this belief the NFHS and NSDA have created a guide to assist speech and debate programs in a return to activity.
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) serves its members by providing leadership for the administration of education-based high school athletics and activities through the writing of playing rules that emphasize health and safety, educational programs that develop leaders, and administrative support to increase opportunities and promote sportsmanship.
The National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) connects, supports, and inspires a diverse community committed to empowering students through speech and debate.
